Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp red gel food coloring
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Fuji recommended)
  • Optional: cinnamon extract, demerara sugar, pumpkin spice

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and spraying it lightly with baking spray. Insert apple sticks into the tops of each apple.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, light corn syrup, red gel food coloring, and optional cinnamon extract. Stir until mixed and place over high heat.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil while monitoring it with a candy thermometer until it reaches 300ºF – 310ºF (about 20 minutes).
  4. For sparkly bottoms, mix demerara sugar and pumpkin spice in a bowl and sprinkle onto the parchment-lined pan.
  5. Once syrup is ready, dip each apple in the hot mixture, allowing excess to drip off before placing on the prepared sheet.
  6. Let apples cool for about 10 minutes until set.
