  • 2 1/2 quarts fresh wild blackberries
  • 4 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 box Sure-Jell (pectin)
  • 1 teaspoon butter

Instructions

  1. Gather all supplies including tools and ingredients.
  2. Wash and inspect the blackberries, removing any stems or bad berries.
  3. In a large pot, cook blackberries with enough water over medium heat for about 15 minutes until they soften.
  4. Strain the juice through a tight-knit strainer to extract about 3 3/4 cups of juice.
  5. Return juice to the pot, add Sure-Jell and butter, then bring to a full rolling boil while stirring continuously.
  6. Stir in sugar and return to a full rolling boil for one minute.
  7. Fill sterilized jars using a ladle and funnel, leaving some space at the top.
  8. Seal jars with lids and process in a water bath for about 10 minutes.
