Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (13.25 oz) vanilla cake mix
  • ⅓ cup neutral oil (like canola or avocado)
  • 1 cup milk or water
  • 4 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 oz candy melts
  • White nonpareils or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325-350°F (162-175°C). Prepare a baking pan.
  2. Combine cake mix, oil, milk, eggs, and softened butter in a bowl; mix until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake according to box instructions. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  4. Cool the baked cake slightly, then crumble it into a large bowl.
  5. In another bowl, mix powdered sugar with enough milk to create a smooth buttercream; combine with crumbled cake.
  6. Roll mixture into balls (about 30g each) and chill for 15 minutes in the freezer.
  7. Insert lollipop sticks dipped in melted candy melts into each ball; chill again for another 15 minutes.
  8. Coat chilled pops in melted candy melts, remove excess by tapping, and decorate before they set.
  9. Allow them to dry upright in a styrofoam block.
