Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt sugar while stirring constantly until it turns golden amber. Quickly pour it into a round baking dish and swirl to coat.
  2. Mix the Custard: Blend the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour over the caramel in the baking dish.
  3. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake for 50-60 minutes until set but slightly jiggly.
  4. Cool and Serve: Let it cool in the water bath before refrigerating for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, invert onto a plate and enjoy!
